SearchStatusAs a blogger you know how important it is to participate in conversations about your niche on other blogs. And you do that by commenting on other high traffic blogs in your niche.

Why is it important to comment on other blogs in your niche?

  • Participation
  • Exposure
  • Backlinks

But, what if you comment on a blog that uses the “nofollow” tag in the comment links?

While, participating in the conversation will get you some exposure, if your link is not followed you won’t get a backlink to your blog.

Wouldn’t it be good to know ahead of time if a blog is using the nofollow tag in the comment links so you can focus your comments on the blogs that DO follow your links?

The answer, in my opinion, is “YES”.

There are 2 ways to determine if a blog is using the nofollow tag in the comment links.

1. Look at the source code of the blog page you are going to comment on and search for “nofollow”.

2. Use the Firefox Extension SearchStatus

Being able to quickly identify nofollow links is just one small advantage of using SearchStatus.

“For every site you visit SearchStatus lets you view its Google PageRank, Google Category, Alexa popularity ranking, Compete.com ranking, Alexa incoming links, Alexa related links and backward links from Google, Yahoo! and MSN.”

You can do some very serious market research, very quickly with this one little free extension. Also, this extension is safe from spyware.

Hi, I enjoyed using this tool for Firefox, but with the last update the function “Show Backward Links” was changed, for example with previous version links in Yahoo looked like this:
    1) http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=linkdomain%3Aexample.com+-site%3Aexample.com&fr=yfp-t-501&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8

and now they look like this:
    2) http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/search?p=example.com&bwm=i&bwmo=d&bwmf=s

Can you please let me know what I should do so the links look like in option 1?
    Thanks

I like the feature of being able to right-click on a link with FireFox to see if that link is nofollow.
