If I had to start over today what type of site would I build?

Hand built websites, page generation systems, blogs, article site deployments - I've built them all. The rules have changed in how search engines look at a web page (search engines don't rank "sites" they rank pages) so marketers have kept working at tools that let us build sites fast and add features that will increase conversions and get search engine traffic. If I had it to do all over again - I would have created an Authority Site:

one that is built on smart market research
lets me easily publish quality original content
search engine's favorite food
human visitors will come back again and again (and buy)
adding features is simple and easy
geared for maximum selling and flexibility
automates routines - but no footprint
gets buttloads of free traffic from links
Web 2.0 easy

Did you catch the part about getting buttloads of traffic from links? I'm kind of like that vulture who looked at his buddy sitting on a tree limb and said "I'm tired of waiting for something to die - let's go kill something!" Are you impatient, too? Then building a great site and sitting and watching and waiting for search engine traffic is painful - excruciating. Obviously I wouldn't be writing this blog post from a "dream boat" fantasy - I've found a system that fits my ideas of the ideal quality publishing platform. The bummer is, I've known about this for a while, but stubbornly refused to put the time into it I should have. That mistake has been corrected.
