Is Google AdSense Still a Good Way to Monetize Your Blog?

Google AdSense has been around for years. And even though there’s not as much buzz about it as there has been in years past it’s still one of the easiest and most effective ways to monetize your blog.

Of course it depends on your market and what other monetization options are available to you.

For example if you are in a tech savvy market your readers may be less likely to click on AdSense ads than non-tech savvy readers.

You may have access to excellent affiliate programs in your niche that convert and pay well. In that case it makes more sense to promote those affiliate offers and make a higher commission, or even a re-occurring commission, than it does to give away traffic to a lower paying AdSense click.

It may be that a combination of affiliate ads and AdSense works best to monetize your blog.

The best way to find out what works for you in your niche is to do some research and testing.

I agree with the point that CTR will be comparatively much higher by non-tech savvy readers. Affiliate marketing option is best for those blogs which are discussing specifically about a particular service or product.

You know. I was just thinking about adding Adsense to my blog. I strongly believe that when one is first starting out, putting Adsense on the blog may seems a bit intrusive and hungry. Hence, I decided against it because I want my readers to concentrate on what I am writing about.

I guess it will all depend on the owner and the purpose of the blog. I mean, ultimately everyone wants to make a buck; even me. However, because I am so passionate about getting the word out and motivating women, I don’t want too many distractions for them. I hope I’m making sense.

Anyhow, thanks for the great post and resources…

    Deb,

Depending on what the purpose of your blog is AdSense may or may not be right for you. In glancing at your blog I would say don’t waste your time with AdSense. Instead continue to build your list, like you’re doing with the sidebar opt-in, and monetize with higher paying affiliate offers on your blog and in follow-up emails.

Loosing a potential opt-in for a $0.25 AdSense click just isn’t worth it.
