Use Revver.com for Easy Video Blogging and Monetization - With or Without the WordPress Plugin

I’ve been using Revver.com as my main video hosting site for about a month now and I really like it. I discovered Revver.com while using Traffic Geyser to promote my videos. It’s one of the 40+ free sites that Traffic Geyser submits my videos to with just one click.
Even though my videos are automatically included in Revver with my Traffic Geyser submissions I always like to go in and give my Revver posts a little extra attention.
Here are a few things I like about Revver.com…
(There’s a brief Revver WordPress Plugin Training Video at the bottom of this post.)
- Your videos are automatically monetized with semi-transparent “Ad Sense” like contextual ads.
- You can also earn money by displaying other peoples videos on your site. It’s as easy as copying and pasting some code into a text Widget or directly into a post.
- The videos look great! (Better than most video sites including YouTube.)
- Select from up to 15 different images for your intro screen shot.
- You can use up to 1000 characters in the description of each video. (It’s like having a remote blog just for your videos. This is good for social networking and SEO.)
- Allows you to include live links back to your main blog or affiliate offers.
- Cool website branding features. You can include your own custom logo or image to be displayed on your public profile page.
- You can upload almost any video format.
- Revver.com makes it easy for users to subscribe to your video feed. They automatically convert your video into the correct format and provide the proper RSS feed for Flash, QuickTime, iTunes, BlogLines, Google, etc… (I have had some problems with the audio not converting correctly when uploading Windows Media Files ‘.wmv’. So, if you’re podcasting I recommend you upload .mov, .mpg or .avi)
- Revver.com videos load faster and are easier to embed in your blog posts than YouTube videos. Revver.com uses Java Script verses YouTube’s “object” tags. All you have to do is copy and paste a piece of JavaScript into your blog post in “Code” view and you’re done.
Revver.com WordPress Plugin
You can easily use Revver videos on your site without the following plugin. As a matter of fact, I do not use the Revver WordPress plugin, yet. But, I have tested it in WordPress 2.3.1 and it works great. Depending on how your site is setup and what your exact needs are this may be the perfect video blogging WordPress plugin for you.
The following video will give you an overview of the plugin and how easy it is to setup.
Pros:
- The easiest way to publish, promote and monetize videos on your blog.
- Search for your own or other people’s videos from your WordPress admin.
- Upload videos from your WordPress admin.
- Audience can add Video Comments directly into your posts.
- Track video and monetization stats directly from your WordPress admin.
Cons:
- If you are currently using the PodPress plugin you will need to disable it before activating the Revver plugin. Otherwise, it could “break” your RSS feed.
- The videos automatically display at the top of the post and cannot be re-sized. There’s no way to change the video size or where, in your post, the video displays. For a theme like mine that’s a real bummer and the main reason I am not using this plug-in on my site.
The above video was provided by Tubetorial and can be found on their blog at http://www.tubetorial.com/wordpress-videoblogging-the-easy-way/
NOTE: Revver.com is a great, high traffic site but, to get the most out of your video blogging efforts you should use a tool like Traffic Geyser to automatically submit your videos to over 40 video, social bookmarking and social networking sites including YouTube, Blogger, Yahoo Video, Google Video, Flurl, GoFish, and a whole lot more.

Thanks for the info. Great post.
I’ve been noticing a lot of people using Revver lately.
Something I will have to look into for 2008.
Happy New Year!
Revver is definitely moving up in the online world.
They seem to be more Internet Marketer and entrepreneur minded than a lot of the other video sites.
I even run my Revver Video RSS feed through FeedBurner and offer it as the video RSS feed on this site. It works great and it saves me the trouble of having to upload all my videos to my server and use something like PodPress.
Of course the other cool thing about using FeedBurner is that they have some cool options for PodCasting feeds. Not only can people view my video feed in iTunes but they can also view it in almost any feed reader.
Happy New Year, Barry-O!
Thanks for video info! Wish ya wouldn’t tell the whole world about geysers! At some point soon it will stop being effective..!
With new theme- do you not use sempro any longer or does it work with new theme?
Greetings,
Curly.
Hey Curly,
I’m all about testing products and telling people what really works. So, that’s why I tell people about Traffic Geyser.
Will it stop working one day? Maybe. That’s the nature of this business. Things constantly change.
But, they also stay the same. It’s all about content and links and quite frankly it always has been.
Today is no different. The only thing that has changed is how you get your links and how good your content must be to compete with the ever growing influx of information.
Traffic Geyser is just another way to get your content in front of people and get links back to your site. People who don’t put out good content, or use it in a “spammy” way, will have it back fire on them.
Why? Because it’s no longer just Search Engine algorithms ranking your content on these Web 2.0 sites. It’s real people. So, while you may get an initial search engine bump from submitting any old piece of junk, you will not last long if your content doesn’t hold up.
The theme I am using does not work with Semiologic. But, the WordPress Dream Theme does.
[...] to monetize your videos, RSS feeds, etc… They also have some very useful widgets and even a WordPress plugin that is pretty cool. I blogged about it in detail [...]
Hi Barry,
Thanks for all the kind words and great feedback. We’ve recently updated the plugin to offer some additional customization options - like being able to set the embed size, change out the Revver logo on the Flash player for your own, and setting videos to autostart on individual post pages - all from within the Revver Configuration tab of the plugin.
We haven’t had a chance to tackle setting the embed location within a post just yet (we’re currently just using standard WordPress hooks and want to avoid forcing users to have to update their themes), but we’ll take a look at it and see if there’s something we can do.
Again, thanks for the great feedback, let me know if I can be of any assistance,
Asi Behar

Asi,
Thanks for the info. I’m really impressed with everything you guys are doing over there. Keep up the good work!
Barry O.
Thank for posting this blog. I have just started using traffic geyser and I must admit. It does make life easier. I was submiting my videos one by one and that would take days. Now I can do it all in one click and in mulitple formats. This really makes my job so much easier. A large part of my businessis making videos and posting them so it’s essential that I get videos out quickly so I can make more of them.
