I must say I like the changes and focus since changing your theme, good job dude!
And, since the change I have noticed that you are implementing more new
features very cool, anyways I wanted to ask you specifically about one of
them if you do not mind?
Your 1cat.biz tags and your related post I know that your related post use
your tags for deciding what related post that get featured right? Does it
do that automatically and how do you set all that up? tags are like
keywords right?
Currently I am not using tags or related post features with my theme…you
say it best "Do you find yourself reading 10 blog posts a day and going in
10 different directions only to wind up frustrated at the end of the day?
Maybe you've got a good understanding of it all but could use a day-to-day
plan to help you implement and get better results from your blog marketing
Web 2.0 efforts"
Also if you had some time…would you mind taking a look at my blog and
give me some tips or advice on what I can do to improve things…my main
niche is massage therapy but I am focusing on, how to leverage internet
marketing in our overall success. if I may here is what I am working
towards
http://think-diagonal.com
Please if you could I would really appreciate hearing your feedbacks. As I
indicated I really you like your changes and focus.
If I remember correctly you had mentioned that breaking down to purchase a
premium theme was hard for you…anyways it was a good investment.
Robert,
Thanks I'm glad you're enjoying the new look and the new focus.
It's funny that you asked about tags because, I had it on my list of "Things to Post About".
So, here it is… http://1cat.biz/simpletags
In this post I include a 2-part WordPress training video that shows you exactly what plugin I'm using and how to set it up.
To answer your question. Yes, tags are like keywords. They are short descriptions that tell social bookmarking and networking sites what type of content is on your blog and how it should be indexed.
They also help you organize the content on your blog to make it easier for your viewers to find posts that are related.
I'll go take a look at your site and give you some feedback here in the comments.
Thanks, Barry O.
Robert,
I finally had a chance to go and look at your blog, again and make some comments on it here.
First of all I really like the phrase "Think Diagonal" It's catchy and it makes me curious. But, at first glance that's where it stopped for me because I immediately became confused as to what in the world your blog was about. I actually stayed and read quite a few pages and I think I get it now but, I'm still not sure.
Here's what I mean. Look at the categories across the top of your blog. Business | Massage Therapy | Personal | RPM Therapy | My Story
Can you see why I person like me who doesn't know anything about you or your blog would land on that page, take one look at all of those different subjects, and just say "WTF" and click away?
You have less than 10 seconds to capture a readers interest when they land on your blog. And in 2 seconds you've already confused me to the point of thinking, "this is too much work and I don't even want to try and figure it out. Goodbye."
Now, I do apologize if it sounds like I'm being a little harsh and I do say some of this tongue in cheek but, you look like a guy who can take a little nudging.
More importantly you sound like a guy who has a real entrepreneurial spirit and a lot of energy to do something different and stand out.
And that's where I want to encourage you.
If I understand correctly, what you are trying to do is teach other massage therapists how they can use Internet marketing and social networking to increase their business and/or supplement their income. And you've built a MySpace community for that. Right.?.
Now, I haven't researched this niche so I can't speak to whether or not it's a good one. But, it is a niche and it's one that you've chosen and it's something you know about.
I would recommend that you change your tag line right under your logo to say something about what you're doing with online massage therapy or virtual massage therapy. I would get rid of all references to Internet Marketing, Business or anything else that doesn't speak directly to your niche.
Your idea is very unique, so unique in fact that I don't think most people are going to get it right off the bat. So, remove all other distractions and focus on that one thing. "The 'hands off' massage business model"
One last thing. Your template is very cool I like it a lot. But, if you don't have content for a certain section get rid of it until you do. Nothing says "I'm an amateur" like "coming soon" or "image place holder".
In closing, I know this stuff isn't easy and I certainly make my mistakes. But, if you really focus in tight on your niche I think you will be more successful.
Sincerely, Barry O.
p.s. Oh yeah. I don't know whether or not I want to opt-in to get your eBook because I don't know what CTS is. If it's Carpal Tunnel Syndrome then you might want to spell that out. People like me who type all day may actually be interested in it. Plus, the search engines might not know what CTS is either
Hello Barry,
I REALLY APPRECIATE your comments and you are right, I am a guy who can take a little nudging.
I think that your comments/feedbacks are timely because I have been thinking, that for my niche. It may be a little premature to talk about internet marketing to a bunch of low-tech in some regards anti-technology massage therapist and I do see your point on too many directions. And you are right, this is my niche that I know very well and from my 10 plus years being a massage therapist I know that most of us do not last very long in this business due to physical burnout, so my intentions is to try and educate and share how implementing some internet marketing strategies/social marketing could be a a very effective way to supplement their brick and mortar massage business with these strategies (i.e. creating information ebooks, tutorials etc)
I find you to be nothing but a true professional and I really do appreciate you taking out time from your busy schedule to review my blog. As I mentioned to you before, I have been following your website for quite some time now and I have and admired your changes, so I knew from that stand point that I would get some great advice from you, as I am fairly new to this arena. With that said I am happy to achieve a Page Rank 2 today
I do have one burning question and I would be willing to provide you with something in return for your response, if you had one for me. Would you like to place an ad on my blog or I can write a comment on my blog about your services just let me know what you like me to say and/or if you think it would be a good fit for you.
Here is my question, "Is there a way for me to research or evaluate whether my niche is…
1) large enough to make some money, more specifically is there a way to accurately judge if I can achieve enough "penetration" here to make it worth my while? Do you have a specific way to evaluate this? Overture say for the keywords "massage and massage therapy" to be aprox. 768,000 and 308,000 respectively and this is what I really would like to focus on unless you see a better angle.
2)When you say that my idea is unique, maybe too unique it concerns me that maybe there may not be something there worth going after, what are your thoughts?
O.k. so maybe it is more than one…sorry.
1. I recently started using a new keyword tool that makes it very easy to evaluate keywords to see how competitive they are what the demographics are, etc…
It really is different from other keyword tools. http://1cat.biz/words
2. Do some research and see what the long tail keywords are for your niche. Who's searching for "massage therapy"? Is it people looking for a massage therapist or is it massage therapists looking for industry related resources, etc…
Based on your research, target the appropriate long tail keywords that connect with your audience.
Here's that keyword tool again: http://1cat.biz/words
