WordPress 2.5 - I Like It!

OK I'm probably a little late to the party on this one. I have been using WordPress 2.5 on other blogs almost since the day it was released but, I just recently upgraded 1Cat.biz

While there are a lot of changes that some of the old school WordPress users are complaining about I must say that over all I really like the new version. Somethings are a little harder to find, if you're used to older versions of WordPress, but I think the way things are organized in WordPress 2.5 will be more intuitive for new users.

The entire look of the new user interface is lighter and seems to have a more inviting and user-friendly feel to it.

The automatic plug-in update is a brilliant time saver. No more having to go to plug-in websites, downloading plug-in updates, unzipping and uploading via FTP. WordPress 2.5 does it for you directly from the plug-in interface. While some users have reported problems with this feature I've used it on a number of blogs and plug-ins it's worked every time.

My only complaint is the way WordPress 2.5 handles sidebar widgets. I must say this is nothing short of a pain in the a$%. Before if you had 4 sidebars you could see all of them at one time and easily drag 'n drop widgets from one side bar to another. In the new version of WordPress you can only see one sidebar at a time. So if you have a widget in sidebar 1 that you want to move to sidebar 2 you must first remove it from sidebar 1, change view to sidebar 2, add it to sidebar 2 and then save changes.

In my humble, but accurate opinion, that is just stupid! Maybe they'll fix it in future releases. Or maybe there's a really good reason for doing it this way that I don't about yet.

Anyway, all in all I really like WordPress 2.5 and I think, especially for new users, it makes for a much more user-friendly blogging and CMS experience.
